NEW YORK, March 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — It’s a three-peat for the French Bulldog! The American Kennel Club (AKC®), a not-for-profit organization, the world’s largest purebred dog registry and leading advocate for dogs, announced this morning that the beloved French Bulldog is America’s most popular breed for the third year in a row, according to AKC registration statistics.
While the playful and adaptable French Bulldog’s popularity shows no signs of slowing, the smart and courageous Cane Corso has been quietly climbing the charts since becoming recognized by the AKC in 2010. Over the past decade, registrations for this loyal breed have increased 414% and it has gone from 47th most popular in 2014 to 14th in 2024.
“The Frenchie has solidified itself as America’s sweetheart, and it’s no surprise why,” said AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo. “They are fabulous companions for a variety of people. However, the Cane Corso is one to watch, as it has consistently increased in popularity since becoming recognized. Corsi are majestic and intensely loyal, but not for everyone. As with any breed, we can’t stress enough the importance of doing your research to find the right breed for your lifestyle and to ensure that you’re getting a well-bred dog from a responsible breeder.”
Movers and shakers in 2024 include the Staffordshire Bull Terrier (#72 in 2023 to #63 in 2024), Chinese Crested (#79 in 2023 to #68 in 2024), American Staffordshire Terrier (#95 in 2023 to #77 in 2024), American Eskimo Dog (#129 in 2023 to #116 in 2024), Bracco Italiano (#152 in 2023 to #132 in 2024) and German Pinscher (#151 in 2023 to #133 in 2024).
Making strides over the past decade are the Boykin Spaniel (#108 in 2014 to #65 in 2024), Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever (#99 in 2014 to #69 in 2024) and Beauceron (#145 in 2014 to #100 in 2024).
