CENTRE – After losing their Class 4A, Area 12 baseball opener at Cleburne County 7-4 on Tuesday, the Cherokee County Warriors rallied for a pair of wins on Thursday to take the series.
James Hunter delivered the game-winning hit to score Nate Black in the Warriors’ 13-12 victory to force a decisive third game. The Warriors won that one 11-1 in five innings.
In Thursday’s first game, Black homered, doubled, walked three times and had two RBIs for the Warriors (11-10). Hunter went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Adam Griffith was 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs. Case Hill went 2-for-4 with a run.
Carson Tittle collected a hit, three walks, two runs and three RBIs. Parker Wilson had a hit, a run and two RBIs. Aiden Bobbitt delivered a hit, two walks and a run. Luke Young and Evan Hill both finished 1-for-2 with a walk, a run and a RBI.
Evan Hill earned the win in relief after tossing 2/3 of an inning. He allowed no hits with two walks.
Ben Elsberry started the game and worked 3 1/3 innings. He gave up four earned runs on seven hits with two walks and a strikeout. Brodie Harkins and Black also tossed an inning.
In Thursday’s second game, the Warriors only managed three hits, but they also drew 13 walks.
Young doubled, walked and scored two runs. Wilson added a hit, two walks, two runs and two RBIs. Hunter had a hit, a walk, a run and a RBI.
Tittle walked twice, drove in two runs and scored another. Griffith walked twice and drove in a run. Black walked and had a RBI. Case Hill and Evan Hill both had two walks and scored twice. Evan Hill also drove in a pair of runs.
Griffith earned the win. He tossed all five innings and gave up an earned run on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
Cherokee County hosts White Plains in the first game of another area series on April 1.
