Desmond Brown’s Murder Case Writ Denied By Alabama Supreme Court

Desmond Brown was convicted in Cherokee County for the Murders of sisters 19 Year old Vanita Richardson and 30 Year Old Clarice Truvenia Campbell in November of 2023.

Brown killed the two women after he believed they had stolen his wallet at a party.

It was determined the women were killed in Alabama, but their bodies were dumped under a bridge in Rome, GA.

In a Release from District Attorney Summer Summerford, it was revealed that a writ of certiorari filed to appeal his case to the State of Alabama Supreme Court has been denied.

According to District Attorney Summerford

“Last week, the Supreme Court of Alabama denied Desmond Brown’s writ of certiorari regarding his November 2023 conviction for Capital Murder out of Cherokee County. The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals previously upheld the conviction. Brown is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.”

Brown, 28, was initially charged in Floyd County with two counts of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by first offender probationer, theft by taking, three counts of tampering with evidence, false statements and writings, and two counts of abandonment of a dead body.

Due to the determination that the murder took place in Cherokee County, in Alabama, the case was moved and hear there.

After the conviction, Summerford had this to say:

“This case was made possible by cooperation between multiple agencies. Many thanks to the many individuals who played a part in this investigation and prosecution. Also, a special thanks to GBI Special Agent Ghee Wilson and the Floyd County District Attorney’s Office. The families of the victims have been diligent during this process. They loved Vanita and Truvenia and are committed to seeing the process through. Many people do not realize how difficult this process is on families who have lost their loved ones in a brutal and horrific way. Our prayers continue for them through this holiday season,” said Cheroke County District Attorney Summer Summerford.
