CENTRE, AL – Local business owner, former Alabama State Trooper, and incumbent City
Councilman Jay Howell is officially announcing his candidacy for Mayor of Centre. Howell’s
community engagement and leadership over the past four years on the city council have
equipped him with the skills and experience to effectively lead the City of Centre as its next
mayor.
“All I’ve ever known is public service, and I want to be a mayor who truly serves our community,”
said Howell. “Being born and raised in Centre, I’ve grown to love this place. It’s always been
home, and my goal as mayor is to move Centre forward while also honoring our roots.”
Howell is focused on Centre’s potential for growth. During his time on the city council, he has
played a key role in managing the annual budget, overseeing city departments, and addressing
residents’ concerns to improve quality of life and encourage civic engagement.
“My vision for Centre is simple: build a city that everyone is proud to call home. We will continue
to support and invest in our first responders, address critical infrastructure needs, advocate for
the beautification of our historic downtown, upgrade parks and recreational facilities, enhance
government transparency and accessibility, and eliminate wasteful spending.”
Howell is a graduate of Cherokee County High School and Jacksonville State University, where
he earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice. Committed to protecting and serving his community,
Howell spent 25 years as an Alabama State Trooper before retiring in 2011.
