Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade has announced he is retiring.
His last day will be on April 1st. Wade was appointed Sheriff back in 2016 to fill the role when Larry Amerson retired. He had served a the Chief Deputy to Amerson for 12 years before taking over the department.
Sheriff wade has been a part of the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office dating back to 1996, when he started in the jail as a Corrections Deputy. He then worked his way up through the ranks to become Sheriff.
We recently ran a story where he had been selected as President of the Alabama Sheriff’s Association:
When a Sheriff retires mid term, the Governor will appoint someone to fill the position until the next election, when one will then be elected. This is a developing story, as we get more information, the story will be updated.
