FORT PAYNE – The Cherokee County Lady Warriors swept their way through the Fort Payne Softball Tournament on Friday and Saturday. They defeated Madison Academy in the championship game on Saturday 2-1 to clinch the title.
Emma Hill led the Lady Warriors in the championship game against Madison Academy. She allowed just one run on six hits with a walk and six strikeouts in five innings of work in the circle. Hill also had a hit at the plate.
Bristol Bass and Sydni Frost also had a hit apiece for the Lady Warriors. Sofie Dawson drove in a run.
The Lady Warriors defeated Fort Payne twice in their path to the championship. They defeated them 6-3 on Friday and 11-5 on Saturday.
In the first game against Fort Payne on Friday, Emma Eberhart went 3-for-3 at the plate for Cherokee County. Izzy Patterson and Brooklynn Bruce also had multiple hits. Kaylee Lewis tripled and drove in a pair of runs.
Hill earned the win in the circle. She scattered two earned runs on eight hits with a walk over five innings. She also struck out seven.
Hill also helped herself at the plate by driving in a pair of runs. Lewis also drove in two runs.
In the semifinal meeting with Fort Payne on Saturday, Bruce propelled the Lady Warrior offense with a grand slam to left field in the second which was part of a seven-run inning. Dawson singled to score a run, and Journie Cabe doubled to drive in two runs.
Hill once again earned the win for Cherokee County. She allowed a run on a hit in two innings with two walks and four strikeouts.
Cabe tossed three innings of relief and gave up one earned run on four hits with a pair of walks. She also finished with a pair of hits at the plate.
Bass and Dawson also collected two hits for the Lady Warriors.
The Lady Warriors opened the tournament with a 7-2 victory over Skyline on Friday. Hill had a pair of hits and earned the win in that one as well. She allowed just one hit in two innings of work with now walks and six strikeouts. Bass tossed three innings, allowing two runs on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
Patterson had a hit and three RBIs. Eberhart walked twice.
Cherokee County will travel to White Plains on Tuesday.
