Governor Ivey Signs Veterans Resource Center Bill Sponsored by State Senator Andrew Jones

Montgomery-

Local State Senator for District 10 Andrew Jones recently introduced Senate Bill 70, which would create a Veterans Center to support Veterans in the state of Alabama. On Thursday, Governor Kay Ivey signed that bill into law.

The signing will establish the Alabama Veterans Resource Center, which is expected to be located in Montgomery. We at WEIS reached out to Senator Jones after the bill was passed and signed, and he had this to say:

” Through a lot of hard work, Alabama has been ranked the second most friendly state for veterans to retire in. Our new veterans Resource Center in Alabama will pave the way to making Alabama number one in the nation! Through a hub and spoke model, this center will coordinate with other spokes- service locations for veterans that provide job training, job placement, and referral for needs such as mental health care. Supporting out veterans is the vest way we can repay them for the sacrifice they have made for us.”

Governor Ivey also released a statement regarding signing the bill.

“Alabama’s more than 400,000 veterans deserve our very best, and I look forward to the Alabama Veterans Resource Center being one more tool for those who have served. This legislation, along with Senate Bill 67 to restructure the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs, will help Alabama be the number one state for veterans. As I said during my state of the state address, our veterans have taken care of us, so now, we must take care of them.” – Governor Kay Ivey
