While on scene of this fire, CBFD was dispatched to multiple other calls including a MVA on Highway 9 as well as a smaller Wildland fire off Cove LN. Gaylesville Fire assisted us on scene with that call as well.

Directly after returning to service from the fire at The Bluffs, Broomtown Fire was dispatched to yet another Wildland fire on CR 133. Gaylesville and Cedar Bluff Fire responded to assist due to the size of this fire and to adequately protect any structures that may have been in danger. Cherokee County EMA and AL Forestry Commission responded as well.

At both larger fires today, With the use of drones, EMA personnel we’re able to quickly determine the path of the fire, locate all structures that were in danger and place apparatus in appropriate locations to protect them. This is an invaluable asset allowing us to see the large scale picture and rapidly deploy apparatus to the most effective areas of the fire.

Without this level of mutual aid among all of our neighboring departments and agency’s, it would be extremely difficult to achieve the results we achieved today. Although one residence decided to voluntarily evacuate for safety, there was no loss of life or property.

All of these fires were caused from someone burning some type of brush or trash and it getting out of hand. Even though the ground it self may be wet the surface is still extremely combustible and can get out of control extremely quickly. Please use EXTREME caution when burning anything outdoors.
