Smoke Advisory in Area

Mt. Olive Fire Department Issued a Heavy Smoke Advisory for the Calhoun County Area. The smoke is also drifting through Etowah and Cherokee counties, and into Georgia. It is expected to lift and clear some through the day.
*HEAVY SMOKE ADVISORY*
This morning around Calhoun County, there is heavy smoke in the air caused by temperature inversion and a combination of smoke from wildfire and prescribed burns around the area in the last few days. Warm air has trapped cooler air close to the ground causing EXTREMELY reduced visibility and a large quantity of smoke that may cause concern for community members.
This smoke will lift as the day progresses and the air at surface level warms up. There is no fire threat to the community at this time.
Drive with caution until visibility has improved and stay safe!
