PIEDMONT – The Piedmont Bulldogs opened their 2025 baseball season on Saturday with a doubleheader against Hokes Bluff and Oxford. Piedmont defeated Hokes Bluff 3-2 and dropped a 9-2 decision against Oxford.
In the Hokes Bluff game, Brodie Homesley went 2-for-3 at the plate. He also picked up the win on the mound after working five innings. He scattered a pair of runs (one earned) on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Kale Austin earned the save after working a pair of scoreless innings with a walk and two strikeouts..
Cole Austin had a hit and a run. Hayes Gunn had a hit and a RBI. Carson Sanders also contributed a hit. Brayden Estes and Cole Wilson scored a run apiece.
In the Oxford game, Piedmont held a 1-0 lead after three innings before Oxford struck for four runs in the top of the fourth and five more runs in the top of the fifth.
Wilson, Cole Austin, Kale Austin and Brayden Estes each had a pair of hits for the Bulldogs (1-1). Wilson, Cole Austin and Kale Austin had a double each. Sanders and Gunn both drove in a run.
Cole Austin suffered the loss. He gave up five earned runs on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts in over four innings. Sanders worked in relief, surrendering just two hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
Piedmont is scheduled to host Cherokee County on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
