The Honorable Albert “Al” Shumaker to be Honored with Flags at Half Mast

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has authorized flags in Centre to be flown at half mast to honor the longtime city attorney and active community member the Honorable Albert “Al” Shumaker.

 

Arrangements for Mr. Shumaker are being handled by Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home.

 

The Honorable Albert “Al” Shumaker, age 84 of Centre, passed

away Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at Encompass Health and Hospice in Gadsden, Alabama.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday, February 23, 2025 at the Recreational Outreach

Facility (The ROC) of First Baptist Church Centre with Pastors Eddie Nation, Gary Hardin, and

Melvin Salter officiating. Mr. Shumaker will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service.

The Honorable Shumaker will be lying in state in the law library of Shumaker and Associates

Law Firm, 270 East Main Street on Saturday, February 22nd from 3pm until 6pm. The family will

be receiving friends during that time. A committal service will be announced later in Jasper,

Alabama, where he will be interred in his family cemetery.

Mr. Shumaker is survived by his wife, Anne Williamson Shumaker.

Pallbearers include: Representative Richard Lindsey, Mayor Mark Mansfield, Honorable Dean

Buttram, Jr., Judge Wes Mobley, James Walker, Lanny Starr, Jed Lockridge, & Pete Conroy.

Honorary Pallbearers include Judge Randall Cole, Judge David Rains, D.L. Powell, Tim

Lavender, Tommy Minix, Members of the Bar Association, Members of the Al Shumaker Sunday

School Class, Members of the Centre Rotary Club.
