Piedmont City Council Discusses City Budget and Other Issues

The City Council approved the minutes of the previous meeting and the bills for payment for the past 2 weeks without any major discussion. During the previous meeting, the bills for payment was a major discussion item. The current bills approved were $453,877.50 for the General Expenses and Payroll for the previous 2 weeks was $146,778.67 for a total of $600,656.17.

The Council approved a new Resolution 2025-03 dealing with Agenda Items. Councilman Terry Kisor asked for this to done. The Resolution states that Items NOT listed on the Agenda that are brought up during a Council Meeting Are NOT to be voted on during the Current Meeting unless it is an Emergency Situation that requires immediate attention. A stipulation for an Agenda Listed Item be accompanied by proper Documentation. There was one dissenting vote.

Metal siding for the Scout House was approved in the amount of $16,100 with Tony Staehly getting the bid. Clerk Hinton said work is proposed to begin in a month. Electrical Department Supplies were approved for purchase in the amount of $12,194.50 from Gresco Supply of Atlanta.

The City Budget was on the Agenda with City Clerk Hinton telling the Council, Leanne Pike had received another phone call from East Alabama reminding the City they needed to Adopt a budget for a grant they are working on. For the past 4 years the City has been working from actuals from the previous year without adopting a current budget. Hinton said Leanne would be pulling the line items from the past 4 years to get an average of the revenue and expenses for the Council to have to work on a Current Budget.

$65,000 was approved for the Fire Department to purchase a used Fire Truck when the Chief found one that would fit the needs of the City.

The Next City Council Meeting will be on March 4th with planning session at 5:30 and City Council Meeting afterward.
