Rome Police Honor Officer

Rome Police Honor Officer:
From the Rome Police Department:
Rome’s City Manager Sammy Rich, Commissioners, Chief of Police Denise-Downer McKinney, Command Staff, and distinguished guests presented the 2024 Rome Police Department Officer of the Year Award tonight to PFC Dalton Gibbs.
PFC Gibbs was chosen as Officer of the Year for his response to an armed robbery in early 2024. PFC Gibbs found himself thrust into an intense, high-risk situation by simply responding to a call for help. PFC Gibbs acted with extraordinary courage, without hesitation, and without regard for his own safety, as he proceeded to stop a violent criminal and ensure the safety of those at risk. PFC Gibbs engaged in a dangerous foot pursuit, when during the pursuit the fleeing suspect aimed a firearm directly at PFC Gibbs and a fellow responding officer. Ultimately, PFC Gibbs saved the life of that officer.
PFC Gibbs has been presented the Medal of Valor, for acts of bravery performed in the line of duty, demonstrating exceptional valor, commitment to public safety, and an unyielding resolve to protect and serve. His actions reflect the highest ideals of law enforcement: courage, sacrifice, the spirit of service above self, and an unshakable sense of duty. He placed the safety of others above his own, setting an inspiring example for all who wear the badge.
For his extraordinary courage in the face of danger, it is with great respect and honor that we name PFC Dalton Gibbs the 2024 Rome Police Department’s Officer of the Year.
