From The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office:
Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver and Chief Deputy Josh Summerford recently attended the National Sheriff’s Association Winter Conference in Washington, D.C., joining 26 other sheriffs from across Alabama. The conference provided valuable training and discussions on key law enforcement issues, including a presentation by Border Czar Tom Homan on illegal immigration.
While in the nation’s capital, Sheriff Shaver and Chief Deputy Summerford met with Senator Katie Britt, Senator Tommy Tuberville, Congressman Robert Aderholt, and Congressman Barry Moore. These meetings focused on securing funding for special projects and addressing issues that impact sheriff’s offices across Alabama.
In addition, Chief Deputy Summerford and Deputy Gavin Johnson attended a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on efforts to combat the spread of illegal fentanyl, a growing crisis affecting communities nationwide.
Sheriff Shaver emphasized the importance of these opportunities, stating, “Meetings like this allow us to collaborate with other sheriffs, share best practices, and work together on issues that impact law enforcement across the country. Building strong relationships with our national leaders helps ensure that our local agencies have the resources and support needed to keep our communities safe.”
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to staying informed on national law enforcement challenges and advocating for resources to better serve and protect the people of Cherokee County.
