One Tagged Fish Worth A $10,000 Prize, 1000 Fish Worth $134,000

Weiss Lake Crappie Rodeo Is Underway

The annual Weiss Lake Crappie Rodeo began on February 1st with 1001 Tagged Crappies Worth more than $134,000. There are 53 fish worth $1000 each, 474 worth $100 each, and 473 worth $50 each and there is ONE FISH WORTH $10,000.

Several anglers are bringing in those tagged crappies. Tim Pentecost of Leesburg, caught one worth $50 on the first day of the event.

Danny Wright of Sand Rock caught a $100 tagged fish

Brad Coley of Fort Payne caught a $100 fish

Shannon Read of Centre caught a $50 fish

Lei Winters of Cedartown caught a $100 tagged fish while fishing in the Mud Creek area.

Vigil of Bay Springs Campgrounds caught a $50 tagged crappie

and Alecia Justice caught a $50 tagged fish while fishing in Yellow Creek.

The tagged crappies were released in all areas of Weiss Lake. Anglers wanting to participate in the Crappie Rodeo need to get their Rodeo Badge at participating merchants around the lake. This event is sponsored by the Weiss Lake Improvement Association whose mission is to continuously improve the fishery, water quality and safe boating on Weiss Lake. All proceeds from the event are invested on improving Weiss Lake for today’s anglers and lake users and for future generations of anglers and boaters.

The Rodeo Badge is valid for the entire event of February, March and through April 30th.
