Kerr Family Fellowship Hall Dedication Held in McCord’s Crossroads Community
2/7/2025
A Dedication was held for the Kerr Building in the McCord’s Crossroads community on Thursday at 11 AM.
The event took place at the Hopewell Community Center at the Invitation of the MCord’s Crossroads Homemaker’s Club (MCHC). The event was held and the building dedicated in honor of the Kerr Family and their various contributions over the years to the community. A resolution was formally signed by members of the Kerr Family and Officers of the McCord’s Crossroads Homemakers Club to mark the occasion, and make the formal dedication official.
The event was well attended, and emotional at times, as people shared stories of the Kerr family, the history of the property, and the hard work and dedication it took from volunteers to establish the complex, fund, and build the new fellowship hall. Mattie Williams, the MCHC Vice President handled the duties of Mistress of Ceremony. Mrs. Williams opened the event with a welcome, before prayer was conducted by MCHC Secretary Judy Hopper. Mrs. Williams then introduced Karen Bobo as the keynote speaker for the day,
Mrs. Bobo spoke of “The history of the Kerr Fellowship Hall, A Partnership That Has Stood the Test of Time.” Her presentation was accompanied by photos of the history and progress of the project. She spoke of the different contributions made by the Kerr Family, as well as other community families and volunteers. Following her presentation, members of the Kerr Family were invited for a time of reflections.
Mr. Barry Kerr took to the podium, and entertained the crowd with stories honoring members of the Kerr family, and their ties to the community. He presented a book, that everyone who had a part in working on the project had signed when they came to volunteer. He individually honored and thanked members who were present who had a hand in the work, as well as members of the Kerr family. He Proceeded to share personal stories involving the family members, and stories from over the time of the project. An emphasis was put on the nature of sacrifice from volunteers that led to only some dry wall worked being hired out.
Following the reflection time with the Kerr’s, MCHC members Odessa Rogers and Marine Coffey led a presentation of a plaque to the Kerr’s to commemorate the occasion and express their gratitude. During the presentation, the crowd was treated to a bit of the history of the MCHC and their close ties to the Kerr family. They also honored past and founding members of the MCHC.
Following the Special Presentation, members of the Kerr family and MCHC remained and a cart was rolled out with three copies of the official resolution, which was read to the crowd and signed. After the signing, there were refreshments and a cake made available by the MCHC, which were blessed and then served during a time of fellowship and community where those in attendance had the opportunity to spend time with the Kerr family and those in attendance.
