ALEXANDRIA – The Cherokee County Warriors finished runner-up to Alexandria in the Class 4A, Area 12 basketball tournament on Tuesday. They fell by the final of 59-41.
Jayquan Diamond led the Warriors (12-8) with 15 points, including three 3-pointers. Reid Jacoway delivered eight points. Ben Moseley and Owen Jacoway both finished with five points.
Quendavion McDowell also scored 15 points to lead the fifth-ranked Valley Cubs. Cole Wheeler and Cleat Forrest both netted 11 points. Wheeler connected on a pair of treys and Forrest sank three treys.
Jaylen Henderson and JJ Beason finished with nine and seven points respectively.
Alexandria led 15-7 at the end of the first quarter and built a 33-14 edge at halftime. The Valley Cubs held a 53-38 advantage at the end of three quarters.
The two teams advance to sub-regional play and await the result of Wednesday’s Area 11 championship game between Oneonta and Hokes Bluff. The Warriors will travel to the winner, while Alexandria will host the loser.
