ATRIP-II Grant Approved for Etowah County:
1/31/2025
Etowah County District 3 Commissioner Jamie Grant said that Governor Kay Ivey has announced that Etowah County has been approved for a $1,861,850 Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program-II (ATRIP-II) grant. Etowah County had applied for the project based grant for the fiscal year 2025.
The money will go towards projects to make improvements on AL Highway 431 at Sand Valley Road and Duck Springs Road. The funds will be matched by Etowah County in the amount of $148,537. Grant states that match funds will come from landfill tipping fees. He went on to say the landfill had reached out, and that the County is looking to add some other safety features there with this project. Grant went on to thank Governor Ivey. Under the ATRIP-II program, there is no requirement that local governments put up matching funds to be eligible. By law, the projects must move forward within two years of the funds being announced.
The funds are just a small portion of more than $40 Million announced for 24 projects for cities and counties state wide. “I am proud of the hard work we have put in throughout my Administration to Rebuild Alabama. Rebuild Alabama has helped make us stronger as we have broken ground on hundreds of road and bridge projects all across the state,” said Governor Ivey. “We have projects improving Alabama in all 67 counties, but our job is not finished, and we are not slowing down now!”
The funding is made available through the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program-II (ATRIP-II), a program created in 2019 by the Rebuild Alabama Act. The Rebuild Alabama Act requires ATRIP-II to be an annual program setting aside a minimum of $30 million off the top of ALDOT’s share of new gas tax revenue for projects of local interest on the state highway system.
