WEIS radio afternoon drive personality Karli Morgan is used to going one-on-one with up-and-coming country music artists, but on Wednesday she went one-on-one with Spring Garden senior basketball point guard and University of Alabama signee Ace Austin, accompanied by her father and head coach Ricky Austin.
Ace has started at point guard for Spring Garden since the 7th grade. Under her guidance, the Lady Panthers have won three Class 1A state championships, including the last two. She’s also guided the volleyball team to back-to-back state championships as an outside hitter.
Ace became Spring Garden’s all-time basketball career leading scorer with her 43-point effort against seven-time defending Class 6A state champion Hazel Green on Jan. 21 in a 63-46 win. She surpassed Paige Anderson McDonald’s career record in points. Anderson McDonald scored 3,667 points in her career from 2003-08. Following the Hazel Green game, Ace was at 3,671 points and counting.
Ace signed with the University of Alabama on Nov. 15, before the Lady Panthers’ 2024-25 basketball season began, but before she takes her talent to the Crimson Tide, she’s gearing up for another run at a Class 1A state basketball championship with her teammates.
