SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) – A man in Maine celebrated a major milestone Friday.
James Mardin is a World War II veteran who just turned 103 years old.
The centenarian likes to hang out at the Maine Military Museum in Portland.
The people there know him as a “living artifact.”
Mardin joined the National Guard in high school.
After guarding guns at Fort Williams, he quickly became bored and decided to go overseas.
“We didn’t do anything. That was it,” he said. “I had to get out and I just had to get out of what was going on over there and I’m doing nothing here. So I applied for it, took all the tests and passed them.”
Mardin said he has a few tips for anyone who wants to live as long as he has.
They include eating dark chocolate, staying light-hearted and rolling with whatever life throws at you.
