Mrs. Iris Nell Tillery

Mrs. Iris Nel Tillery, age 79 of Centre, passed away peacefully Friday, January 24,
2025 at her daughter’s residence in Cartersville, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 3pm Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Centre First United Methodist Church with Dr. George Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

The family will be receiving friends from 1-3 PM Sunday at the church.

Survivors include her Daughter, Sharon (Gary) Nichols; Son, Eric Jones; Grandchildren: Evan Nichols, Callie Nichols, Daniel Jones, John Jones, Luke (Gabby) Jones, Samuel Jones, and Matthew Jones; Nephews, David Tillery and Jeremy Partridge; Niece, Jennifer Chesnut.

Her Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.

Honorary Pallbearers include Eddie Robinson, Barry Cochran, Ricky Whitt, Tommy Loder, David James, Jeremy Partridge, and Dr. Robert Bass.

Mrs. Tillery was born and raised in Pell City Alabama and was the daughter of the late Buster and Esther Pate Partridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mack Tillery.

After graduating from Pell City High School, she attended Birmingham Southern College on a piano scholarship. She and her husband Mack moved to Centre in 1972 and she began working at Centre Hospital as an inhalation therapist. Mrs. Tillery then went on to graduate from the Gadsden State Nursing program in 1976. Over the course of her career, she worked at Holy Name Hospital Emergency Department, Compton Mills as a Nurse, and finally came back to Cherokee County where she founded the Cherokee County Home Health and Hospice division in Cherokee County. She loved playing the piano, singing in the church choir, and riding horses.
Throughout her life, she had an appreciation for and a collection of antiques.
