Drew Baldridge has found a life motto in ‘Tough People’

Independently promoting a song to radio is no easy feat for an artist. In fact, very few artists have done that and succeeded like Drew Baldridge, whose song “She’s Somebody’s Daughter” became his first #1 single.

The difficult ascent up the charts without the support of a record label, according to Drew, served as the impetus for writing his new single, “Tough People.”

“[‘Tough People’ is a] song I wrote when I was having a tough time sending ‘Daughter’ to radio by myself. I wrote it with some great friends and it was kind of a message to me at the end of the day,” Drew tells ABC Audio.

“I think when we were in that writing room, we all had different thoughts,” recalls the singer, who wrote it with Luke Combs, Jordan Walker and Adam Sanders. “For me, it was for not giving up on [‘She’s Somebody’s Daughter’]. Keep going.”

Drew shares, “The hook line that we wrote … kind of became my motto: ‘Hard work pays off, good beats evil, and tough times make tough people.'”

“Tough People” is now approaching the top 20 of the country charts.

This summer Drew will hit the road with Bailey Zimmerman for Bailey’s New To Country Tour with fellow opener Dylan Marlowe
