Streamlined Tax and Tag Operations Successful For Cherokee County Residents

Revenue Commissioner Dustin St.Clair met with the Cherokee County Commission Monday to update them on the combined operations of the tag office and the property tax payments of the Revenue Commissioners Office.

In 2023, the tag office and the employees were moved to the Revenue Commissioners office. During the Taxpaying period of 2023, October 1 through December 31, St.Clair told the commission his office saw 8800 people with tags and tax payments. During the same period in 2024 they served 12500 people. This was an increase of 3700 tax payers served. St.Clair said it hasn’t been easy but he was proud of his employees as they transitioned to the new system of service. The Revenue Commissioners employees had to learn the Tag Operations and the Tag Employees had to learn the operations of the Revenue Commissioners office with property taxes and the other services they provide. St.Clair also told the Commission, the time from when someone comes into his office until they are in front of a clerk is a minute or less. The total time from entering the office to the time a person is finished their business and leaving is about 8 minutes. No Long Lines Backed Out into the hallway and no long waits for the residents of the County.

St.Clair said his office will also add services for Vessels. Watercraft owners will soon be able to get their registrations at the same place they get their vehicle tags and registrations and pay their property tax. This is another way to better serve the Citizens of the County.
