Health Care Premiums Decreasing For County Employees

During the Cherokee County Commission Meeting Monday, County Administrator Daniel Steele informed the Commission he had received the Blue Cross Blue Shield renewal premium with a pleasant surprise. There will be a 4.54 percent premium decrease for the upcoming year with single employee coverage at $737.73 per month and family coverage at $1545.50 per month. The Commission approved the renewal for the next year from March 2025 through February 2026.

The Commission also reappointed 3 board members to the Health Care Authority for 6 year terms ending in December 2030. Those members are Sue Guffey, Lanny Starr and Eric Ellis.

A cost share agreement between Etowah and Cherokee Counties for the resurfacing old Highway 411 was approved at an approximate cost of $167,000  and authorized the Chairman to Sign. The project will probably be done in 2026.

An agreement between the Secretary of State and the County to allow the Secretary of State to act as the County’s agent for the purpose of paying postage necessary for mailing certain notices pursuant to National Voting Rights Act and collecting reimbursements from the State Elections Fund.

The next County Commission meeting will be January 27th at 5pm.
