ALEXANDRIA – The Alexandria Valley Cubs hit a game-tying 3-pointer with 3.8 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime, then hit 6-of-8 free throws in the extra session to hold off Cherokee County 70-68 in area boys basketball action on Tuesday night.
Tatum Perry led the Warriors (7-4) with 21 points, including five 3-pointers. Reid Jacoway netted 20 points. Jayquan Diamond delivered 13 points and Ben Moseley finished with eight points.
Jaylen Henderson topped the Valley Cubs with 25 points, including three treys. Quendavion McDowell managed 19 points, including an 8-of-11 performance from the free-throw line.
Cleat Forrest and Chris Aguirre both rang for six points. Forrest’s points came on a pair of 3-pointers. Cole Wheeler finished with five points.
Alexandria led 18-11 at the end of the first quarter, but the Warriors rallied to take a 30-28 advantage at intermission. The Valley Cubs regained the lead at 47-40 after three quarters, but Cherokee County came back to take the lead late in regulation before Alexandria forced overtime.
