Leesburg Town Council Opposes Slot Limit On Bass During Tournaments

During the Monday Town Council meeting, the Council unanimously passed a resolution in opposition to the proposed slot limit proposed by the Alabama Department of Conservation. The Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division proposed a 14-inch to 20-inch protective slot limit for black bass during tournaments using live weigh-ins on six Coosa River Reservoirs, including Weiss, Neely Henry, Logan Martin, Lay, Mitchell, and Jordan. Mayor Brandy Pierce told the Council this would kill the bass tournaments being held on these reservoirs.

The Council adjourned into executive session to discuss legal matters with their Attorney, Chad Hopper. After the session, Attorney Hopper recommended the Town hire a surveyor to survey a portion of Bristow Gap Road which is to be vacated. Before the Council can vote to vacate that particular portion, they have to have a legal description.

Three Conferences were approved for employees and Council Members to attend in 2025.
