CENTRE – Spring Garden countered a 30-point outing by Fyffe’s Cooper Cox with 18 points from John Welsh and 17 points from Jacob Welsh in a 62-55 victory in the Alabama ONE Cherokee Basketball Classic in Centre on Saturday.
Connor Bates tossed in 15 points for the Panthers (10-0). Jaylen Brown finished with eight points.
Isaac Slaton added 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers for the Red Devils. Maddox Doss also had a pair of treys and finished with six points.
The game was tight throughout. The Panthers held a 10-9 advantage after one, led 25-22 at the break, and took a 39-38 lead into the fourth quarter.
The following is a roundup of Saturday’s action.
Sand Rock 52, Vincent 40
CENTRE – Ty Traffanstedt tallied 19 points, including three 3-pointers. He also had two rebounds, two assists and two steals in leading the Sand Rock Wildcats to a 52-40 victory over Vincent on Saturday.
Will Cleere tossed in 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Wyatt Miller collected nine points, five rebounds and an assist. Cam Gifford delivered seven points, seven rebounds, five assists and a steal. Jonas Browder finished with four points, four rebounds, six assists and a steal.
Camari Keller led Vincent with 14 points. Taye Robertson finished with 11 points.
Sand Rock led at each of the quarter breaks. The Wildcats jumped out to a 17-4 lead after one and held a 30-12 edge at halftime. Sand Rock maintained a 39-27 edge after three quarters.
Cherokee County 78, Cleveland 50
CENTRE – The Cherokee County Warriors blew open a close game with Cleveland by outscoring the Panthers 26-11 in a 78-50 victory.
Reid Jacoway led the Warriors with 24 points. Keyshawn Woods tallied 13 points. Owen Jacoway added eight points. Jayquan Diamond delivered seven points and Ethan Glass finished with six points.
Jacob Sherrer topped Cleveland with 16 points. Cohen Dawson added 12 points, all on 3-pointers. Brooks Dawson netted eight points and Haydn Gerlott finished with five points.
Cherokee County led 15-14 at the end of the first quarter and 30-27 at halftime. The Warriors’ third-quarter surge gave them a 56-38 edge.
Coosa Christian 75, Gaylesville 40
CENTRE – Coosa Christian sank 13 3-pointers in a 75-40 victory over Gaylesville on Saturday.
Jaxon Peek and Samual Reeves both connected on five treys. Peek posted 19 points and Reeves netted 17 points. DJ Mackey managed 12 points. Grayson Malone added a pair of treys and had 10 points. Eli Motes finished with seven points.
Collin Hendon led the Trojans with 19 points, including three treys. Caden Angle added nine points and Hunter Allmond finished with seven points.
Coosa held a 15-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter and built a 41-16 lead by halftime. The Conquerors led 57-29 after three quarters.
Sand Rock 50, Boaz 37
CENTRE – Hadlie Weaver came away with 13 points and Peyton Johnson added 12 points to lead the Sand Rock Lady Wildcats to a 50-37 victory over Boaz on Saturday.
Maddie Clanton contributed nine points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Wildcats. Molly Grace Lay finished with eight points.
Addison Bowlin had a pair of 3-pointers and finished with eight points for Boaz. Breanna Gentry also connected on a pair of 3-pointers and had seven points. Peyton Hall also netted seven points and Maggie Patterson finished with six points on a pair of treys.
Boaz held a 12-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Sand Rock rallied in the second to take a 22-20 edge at halftime. The Lady Wildcats extended their lead to 39-31 after three quarters and maintained their advantage in the fourth for the final.
Cherokee County 46, Fyffe 34
CENTRE – Ellisan Givens scored a game-high 20 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. She also had seven steals and a pair of rebounds in leading the Cherokee County Lady Warriors to a 46-34 girls basketball win on Saturday.
Nevaeh Gaidurgis delivered nine points and four rebounds. Jolie Alexander added nine points, five rebounds and a steal. Deannia Starr finished with six rebounds, four blocks and three points.
Kendra Fay led Fyffe with 10 points. Sam Galloway added eight points. Elli Stone had six points on a pair of 3-pointers. Teia Carroll finished with five points.
The Lady Warriors held a 13-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Fyffe cut it to a 24-22 game in the second, but Cherokee County went on a 13-4 run in the third to take a 37-26 lead.
