Starting this Saturday, and every Saturday through Christmas (while supplies last), there will be a free bike and toy giveaway at Cherokee Storage in Leesburg.
This event is for children in need, and it will consist of free toys, stuffed animals, along with refurbished bicycles, scooters, and push toys and the list goes on and on. These items will be available each Saturday on a first come, first served basis.
The Christmas giveaway is an annual event and is being brought to you by Richard Mathis and the Little River Baptist Church “Christmas for Kids” organization. These items are all previously owned, but have been well-cared for and are ready to provide joy to another boy or girl.
Mathis told us that he first started repairing bicycles while working with missionaries in Mexico, and continued the tradition when he returned to the states in 2010. He said he realized that this was a wonderful way to help children in need during one of the most important times of the year.
Again, there’s a wide variety of items to choose from, with the emphasis on those toys designed for smaller children. Mathis says that you don’t have to pre-register, just show up starting at 8:00 on Saturday morning, as long as supplies last.
Cherokee Storage is located on Weiss Lake Boulevard, around a half-mile past the red light in Leesburg.
