A 2.5 magnitude earthquake rumbled through Walker County at 10 p.m. on Monday, nearly three miles under Earth’s surface, according to the United States Geological Survey.
While some residents described the event as “weird” and “scary,” others say a 2.5 is nothing to worry about.
According to the Earthquake Magnitude Scale, earthquakes anywhere between 2.5 and 5.4 can be felt, but only cause minor damage. The scale estimates that around 500,000 earthquakes occur within this range each year.
