ALDOT Announces Anniston Regional Airport to Receive $304,677 Grant to Support Master Plan

City leadership is proud to share that the Alabama Department of Transportation has announced that Anniston Regional Airport will receive a $304,677 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration and a $16,926 state grant to support the airport’s Master Plan update. The City of Anniston will provide $16,927 in local matching funds, bringing the total investment to $338,530.

Set to begin in the coming months, the Airport Master Plan project will guide essential updates to meet regional needs and enhance economic growth for the community.

About the Anniston Regional Airport: 

The Anniston Regional Airport is certified as an unlimited-use general aviation facility, the airport features a 7,002-foot runway capable of accommodating large dual-wheel aircraft, including converted 727s for freight transport. In addition to general aviation services, Anniston Regional offers hangars, tie-downs, flight instruction, and fueling options (Exxon100LL and Jet-A), along with over 500,000 square feet of paved apron space.

Community Impact: 

Anniston Regional Airport currently supports key sectors, including Jacksonville State University, the Talladega Superspeedway, military traffic from the Anniston Army Depot, and medical flights by the Regional Medical Center. With approximately 19 single-engine planes, 5 multi-engine planes, and 2 jets based locally, the airport plays an essential role in regional transportation, economic development, and accessibility.
