Collinsville closes out regular season with 35-2 victory over Valley Head

COLLINSVILLE – Quintavious Rogers ran for 119 yards on just nine carries and a touchdown. He also had two catches for 41 yards and another score, and picked off a pass on defense to help the Collinsville Panthers close out the 2024 regular football season with a 35-2 victory over Valley Head.

Mason McAteer completed 6 of 12 pass attempts for 111 yards and four touchdowns. He connected with Rogers for the Panthers’ first score on a 25-yard pass early in the first quarter. Aaron Herrera’s extra point gave Collinsville a 7-0 lead.

McAteer tossed his second touchdown of the game to Gavin Lang. This one went for 35 yards and it helped give the Panthers (7-3) a 14-0 advantage. Rogers scored four minutes later on a 27-yard run to push the Panther lead to 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.

McAteer and Lang connected twice more in the second quarter on touchdown passes of 12 and 15 yards, extending Collinsville’s lead to 35-0 at halftime.

Lang finished with three catches for 52 yards, with all three receptions for touchdowns.

Valley Head’s only points came on a safety with 1:33 remaining in the third quarter. The Tigers (6-4) were led by William Blevins, who had 84 yards on 19 carries. He also passed for 57 yards.
Shaun Stewart had a fumble recovery and Sylas Adams had an interception on defense for the Panthers.

Both teams will now prepare for first-round state playoff games. The Class 2A Panthers travel to Piedmont, while Class 1A Valley Head is at Wadley next Friday.
