Spring Garden dominates Millry, moves on to volleyball’s Final Four

BIRMINGHAM – The Spring Garden Lady Panthers’ defense of their Class 1A state title got started with a bang Wednesday morning against Millry at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The Lady Panthers swept in three sets 25-4, 25-10, 25-4 to earn a berth in the Final Four.

The Lady Panthers (37-11) will take on Ider in the state semifinals Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. Ider defeated Kinston 25-17, 25-21, 27-25 in other state quarterfinal action on Wednesday.

Spring Garden swept Ider last Friday at the North Super Regional in Hoover.

Against Millry, Spring Garden jumped out on a 13-0 run in the first set to cruise to the win. It was much the same in the second set, as the Lady Panthers built a 16-3 advantage to go up 2-0 in the match.

Spring Garden finished things off with a 9-0 run in the third to secure another spot in the Final Four.

Ace Austin led the Lady Panthers with 21 kills and six digs. Avery Steward added 31 assists, two digs and a kill. Maggie Jarrett delivered six aces, five digs, five kills and two blocks. Olivia Law collected four kills, four digs, two aces, an assist and a block. Kristen Lewis posted eight digs and an ace.

Chloe Fennell and Montana Highfield had three kills and two kills respectively. Hollis Jane Petty earned three aces and a dig. Lacie Jo McMurray managed two digs.
