Collinsville claims crucial Class 3A Region 8 football win at Holly Pond

HOLLY POND – The Collinsville Panthers claimed a playoff spot Friday night with a 56-32 Class 3A Region 8 football win at Holly Pond.

Quintavious Rogers ran for 234 yards on 13 carries with four touchdowns. He also had an 80-yard kickoff return for a score in the fourth quarter.

Mason McAteer completed 13 of 20 pass attempts for 177 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers (6-3, 4-3).

Holly Pond scored first on Boston Gibbs’ 5-yard touchdown run with 2:35 to go in the first quarter. The Broncos went for 2 and were successful to take an 8-0 lead.

But Collinsville responded with three touchdowns to go out in front at halftime. Rogers and McAteer scored on runs of 68 and 13 yards respectively in the first quarter. Sam Stewart recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown in the second quarter to give Collinsville a 21-8 advantage.

Rogers and Rajuess Rooks accounted for three more Panther scores in the third quarter. Rogers scored on runs of 44 and 60 yards, Rooks caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from McAteer in between to push the Panther lead to 42-8 after three.

Sawyer Olinger accounted for three Holly Pond touchdowns in the fourth quarter on runs of 15, 50 and 48 yards. Rogers added a 55-yard touchdown run and his 80-yard kickoff return for a score for the final.

Collinsville closes out the regular season next Friday when it hosts Valley Head.
