One Fatally Injured and Five Hurt in DeKalb County Wreck / UPDATED

A Crossville man died following a four-vehicle crash in DeKalb County on Wednesday that also injured five people.

Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said the incident happened at 2:55pm – on Alabama Highway 75, close to DeKalb County 24, approximately five miles south of Geraldine.  Tommy W. Gortney, age 51, was driving a 2015 Kia Optima – when it was struck by a 2015 Honda CR-V, driven by Olivia G. Butler, 27, of Rainsville.  After that impact, the Kia struck a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, being driven by Katheryn D, Lipscomb, 33 of Crossville; the Kia also struck a 2019 Honda CR-V, driven by Amanda F. Terry, 51, of Rainsville.

Gortney was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile Lipscomb and Terry were both injured and were transported to Marshall Medical Center for treatment.  The passenger of the Kia, Malinda B. Gortney, age 50 from Crossville, was injured and transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment.  Two children that were passengers in the Chevrolet – a five-year-old and a one-year-old were also hurt – and both were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
