Rome Man Arrested on Charges of Fleeing/Attempting to Elude, Possession of Drugs and More

An East Rome, Georgia man is facing multiple charges – including felony Obstruction of Law Enforcement and Fleeing/Attempting to Elude – after his arrest Sunday on Haley Drive.

According to Floyd County jail records – Police Officers responded to the scene after 40-year-old Benjamin Parker Berry first shoved a woman; he then slapped a cell phone out of her hand before grabbing a close by teen as a hostage; he then used a crowbar and a hammer to damage the closet walls of the residence and a gun safe as well.

When police encountered Berry, he got into his car, which was parked on the wrong side of the street, and started it.  He then started driving down the street with a Police Officer holding onto him and the steering wheel.  Once the vehicle stopped, Berry tried to run.  He was found with cyclobenzaprine and while being medically cleared at the hospital, he had to be restrained after trying to pull away from Police Officers.

Berry is also charged with – simple assault, simple battery, obstructing a person from making a 9-1-1 call, also – DUI/Driving Under the Influence, criminal trespass, the possession of drugs not in their original container, misdemeanor obstruction, disorderly conduct, possession of dangerous drugs, and – improper parking.
