Six area teams’ football players recognized in latest AHSAA Spotlight

MONTGOMERY – Six of the seven WEIS Radio football coverage area teams had multiple players recognized for their Week 7 efforts by the Alabama High School Athletic Association on Tuesday evening. Those players are listed below. ALEX BATY, GAYLESVILLE: Ran for 307 yards on 17 carries and scored five touchdowns to lead the Trojans past Ider 56-0 in Class 1A Region 8. He eclipsed the eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season in the process. He now has 1,103 yards on 117 carries with 17 touchdowns this season. Baty also registered nine tackles on defense in the win, which marked the first shutout for the Trojans’ defense since 2021.

JOHN WELSH, SPRING GARDEN: Picked up 161 yards rushing on 11 carries with two touchdowns covering 76 and 4 yards and also caught four passes for 71 yards and three scores (20, 39 and 12 yards) from quarterback Noah Barber in the Panthers’ 46-21 victory over Appalachian in Class1A Region 8, and had an interception on defense as the Panthers (7-0) remained undefeated beating Appalachian 46-21 in Class 1A Region 8. Teammate Connor Bates added 94 yards and two scores on 14 rush attempts.

BRYSON TEAGUE, CEDAR BLUFF: Had 153 rushing yards and  two scores on 21 carries and passed for 57 yards in a 20-19 Class 2A Region 7 loss to Pleasant Valley.

TAE DIAMOND, CHEROKEE COUNTY: Totaled 145 rushing yards on 17 carries with a 72-yard touchdown and forced a fumble on defense in the Warriors’ 14-0 victory over Anniston in Class 4A, Region 6. He also had eight tackles and forced two fumbles on defense in the shutout win.

MASON McATEER, COLLINSVILLE: Completed 20 of 35 pass attempts for 285 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for two scores in a 41-27 loss to Geraldine in Class 3A Region 8.

QUINTAVIOUS ROGERS, COLLINSVILLE: Hauled in seven catches for 163 yards and two touchdowns (70 and 66 yards) in a 41-27 loss at Geraldine in Class 3A Region 8.

CALEB EDMONDSON, CEDAR BLUFF: Led the Tiger’ defense with 14 stops, including one for loss, in a 20-19 loss to Pleasant Valley in 2A, Region 6. Teammate Hunter Jenkins also had 11 tackles.

JACK SENTELL, GAYLESVILLE: Had 12 tackles and an interception in the Trojans’ 56-0 Class 1A Region 8 victory over Ider.

TRISTAN BROWN, CHEROKEE COUNTY: Led the Warriors’ defense with 11 tackles, including three for a loss and two sacks, and also rushed for a 26-yard on offense in a 14-0 shutout win over Anniston in Class 4A Region 6.

ROLLIE PINTO, PIEDMONT: In a showdown of undefeated teams in Class 3A Region 6,Pinto returned the game’s first punt for an 80-yard touchdown and the Bulldogs (6-0) rolled to a 61-14 win over Locust Fork (5-1). Pinto also for a 44-yard touchdown run. Jaxson Howard added 104 rushing yards and two TDs on 10 carries, and Hayes Gunn had 85 yards on 12 rushes for three scores. The Piedmont defense also forced six turnovers, three interceptions and three fumbles) in the win.
