Leesburg Approves 2024-25 Budget

The Town Council approved a $1.955 Million Budget on Monday during their regular meeting with one dissenting vote, Councilor Byram voting no on the measure but it passed by a 3 to 1 vote.

Sealed bids were opened for a new Chevrolet Tahoe Police Vehilce with Donohoo Chevrolet being the only bidder. They submitted two bids, one with a trade-in and one with a purchase without trade-in. The first bid without the trade was in the amount of $55490 and the second bid with the trade in the amount of $41490. The Council approved to trade in a used vehicle and pay the $41490. Mayor Pierce told the Council it would be done the next day.  A repair bill in the amount of $3000 was approved for transmission work on a police vehicle.

A new employee for the Police Department was approved. The Council approved the hiring of Frank DeHarro as a Police trainee with a starting pay of $16 per hour. The starting date for DeHarro will be October 22nd. He has no experience and will be sent to the Police Academy in 2025.

Another employee was approved for the Town. Ken Lee was hired as Maintenance Person for the Town at a starting pay of $14.50 per hour. Lee’s starting date will be October 21st.

The Council approved an agreement with the Weiss Lake Improvement Association for a Sponsorship in the 2025 Crappie Rodeo. A contract with Extended Family for Kids was approved in the amount of $750.

The Police Department Handbook had to be amended to correct the wording dealing with overtime pay due to the Town going to a 2 week pay period.

The Council voted to terminate a lease on a building at 1799 Lokey Street with Lisa Mackey due to Mrs. Mackey not returning a signed lease agreement by the Council meeting date.

Mayor Pierce announced the Town has a new business with open house of the McCluskey Clinic on October 15th at 10 am. The Trunk or Treat event for the Town will be on October 31st from 6 until 8 pm.

The next Leesburg Town Council meeting is set for Monday, November 4th with pre-meeting at 4:30 and Council meeting at 5.
