Suspect Arrested in Shooting Case

Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Investigators began working an assault case after a man arrived at the emergency room with a gunshot wound.  The shooting incident took place during an argument – at a residence on County Road 33 in the Ellisville community on Wednesday afternoon just before 5:00pm.

Deputies immediately began a search for the suspect in his vehicle when 9-1-1 received a report that he stole a car from a friend.    A BOLO was broadcast statewide for that suspect – who was identified as Terry Huggins, age 35 of Eight Mile, Alabama – and the stolen car.   Glencoe Police, and Etowah County Sheriff’s Office members managed  to apprehended Huggins in the stolen car just after 8:00pm.

According to Chief Deputy Josh Summerford, Huggins was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center, on charges of first degree assault and theft of property.
