County Jail Administrator Named To State Board

Cherokee County Jail Administrator, Sierra Wilks has been named to serve on the Executive Board of the Alabama Jail Administrators Council.

This Agency  works to provide legal based training for Corrections Officers across the state. Right now Alabama does not have a “Standard” for training and this Council is working to provide Legal Based Training. Wilks said the group hopes to provide Access to adequate Training for all Corrections Officers across the state.

Wilks has served as Jail Administrator for 2 years. She is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations concerning the inmates. She supervises the Legal Based Training for all 23 Corrections Officers employed at the jail and makes sure the jail operates within budget.

Wilks told WEIS Radio News, she is excited to serve on this Council and looks forward to getting Training available to all those in corrections within the state.

Chief Deputy, Josh Summerford, said he is proud the young employees of the Detention Center as they  are stepping up to serve on a State wide basis. He said he is extremely proud of the job Wilks does for the county and now serves in a leadership role for the State.
