Area football players recognized in AHSAA’s Week 4 Spotlight

MONTGOMERY – Several area football players were recognized by the Alabama Sports Writers Association for their efforts in Week 4.

Spring Garden’s Connor Bates gained 269 yards rushing on 14 carries and scored twice on runs of 54 and 42 yards to lead the Panthers to a 32-13 win over Valley Head in Class 1A Region 9.

Teammate John Welsh added six carries for 150 yards on just six carries and raced 80 yards for a TD.

Collinsville’s Quintavious Rogers scored five touchdowns for the second straight week (3 rushing, 2 receiving) to lead the Panthers to a 62-0 victory over Asbury in Class 3A Region 9.

Rogers scored Collinsville’s first four touchdowns on a 12-yard run and 1-yard run in the first quarter, a 1-yard run and a 30-yard pass from quarterback Mason McAteer in the second. His final touchdown came on a 29-yard pass from Gavin Lang in the third quarter.

Speaking of Lang, he was a perfect 6-of-6 passing for 123 yards and two touchdowns.

Cedar Bluff’s Hunter Jenkins ran for 144 yards rushing on 15 carries and scored three touchdowns (11, 18 and 30 yards) in the Tigers’ 41-24 Class 2A Region 7 victory over Section.

Teammate Kadien Tracy added 117 yards on 17 rush attempts for one TD and snagged a 30-yard pass for a second score, and Caleb Edmondson caught four passes for 104 yards and a 37-yard score in the Tigers’ homecoming win.

Subbing for injured senior quarterback Cole Wilson, Piedmont freshman quarterback Cole Austin completed 9-of-12 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns – both to Rollie Pinto (36 and 52 yards) – in the Bulldogs’ 38-10 victory over Westbrook Christian in Class 3A Region 6.

Pinto also raced 89 yards for another TD and finished with 101 yards rushing and had five catches for 89 yards and a pair of scores (36 and 52 yards) and also ran 85 yards for a third score in the win.

Cherokee County High School’s Keshawn Thomas returned a punt 67 yards for a score in the fourth quarter of a 47-0 win over White Plains in Class 4A Region 6 action.
