Multiple area standout performances earn AHSAA Football Spotlight recognition

MONTGOMERY – Area football players from six schools were scattered about the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s weekly Football Spotlight on Tuesday.

Spring Garden (4-0) had three players recognized in Noah Barber, John Welsh and Clayton Sadler.

The Cherokee County Warriors (3-1), Collinsville Panthers (2-1) and Gaylesville Trojans (2-2) had two players each. Representing Cherokee County is Tae Diamond and Tristan Brown. Chosen from Collinsville is Quintavious Rogers and Gavin Lang. Hunter Allmond and Collin Hendon were recognized from Gaylesville.

Kane Robison from Sand Rock (3-1) and Hunter Jenkins from Cedar Bluff (1-3) round out the area football players recognized for their Week 3 performances.

Their highlights from last Friday are listed below.

NOAH BARBER, SPRING GARDEN: Was 4-of-5 passing for 150 yards and two scores covering 28 and 68 yards in the Panthers’ 48-0 win over Woodville in Class 1A, Region 8.

JOHN WELSH, SPRING GARDEN: Scored touchdowns in three different fashions in the Panthers’ 48-0 Class 1A, Region 8 victory over Woodville. He scored a defensive TD with a 53-yard fumble recovery and return in the first quarter. He snagged a 28-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Noah Barber later in the first quarter, and on rushed for a 15-yard TD in the second quarter. Teammate Clayton Sadler also had eight tackles in the win.

TAE DIAMOND, CHEROKEE COUNTY: Accumulated 198 yards and scored three touchdowns (5, 19 and 4 yards) on 20 carries to lead the Warriors to a 42-0 victory over Etowah on Cherokee County’s homecoming night. He also had seven tackles and a pair of sacks on defense.

TRISTAN BROWN, CHEROKEE COUNTY: Led the Warriors’ defense with 13 tackles in a 42-0 victory over Etowah. Brown also scored on a 5-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

QUINTAVIOUS ROGERS, COLLINSVILLE: Had 14 carries for 199 rushing yards and scored five touchdowns as the Panthers downed Whitesburg Christian 44-28 in Class 3A, Region 8.  He scored twice in the first quarter on runs of 36 and 3 yards and added touchdown runs of 33 and 31 yards in the second quarter. His fifth TD came on a 16-yard run with 1:44 remaining in the third period.

GAVIN LANG, COLLINSVILLE: Had two interceptions on defense in the Panthers’ 44-28 win in Class 3A, Region 8 win over Whitesburg Christian.

HUNTER ALLMOND, GAYLESVILLE: Registered 10 tackles on defense in Gaylesville’s 33-14 loss to Appalachian in Class 1A, Region 8. He also completed 4-of-8 pass attempts for 96 yards and a 32-yard touchdown to teammate Collin Hendon on offense.

KANE ROBISON, SAND ROCK: Rushed for 176 yards on nine carries with three touchdowns in a 35-6 Class 2A, Region 7 victory over Section. He raced 70 yards for a score on just the second play from scrimmage.

HUNTER JENKINS, CEDAR BLUFF: Scored the go-ahead TD in overtime on a 10-yard run on the Panthers’ OT possession. However, North Sand Mountain came back and scored and won the game with the extra point 21-20. Jenkins finished with 119 yards on 19 carries.
