Spring Garden shuts down Woodville, improves to 4-0

SPRING GARDEN – John Welsh scored touchdowns in three different facets of the game, leading the Spring Garden Panthers to a 48-0 victory over Woodville in Class 1A Region 8 football action on Friday.

Welsh’s touchdowns came on a 53-yard fumble recovery in the first quarter, a 28-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Noah Barber later in the first quarter, and on a 15-yard run in the second quarter. Spring Garden (4-0, 2-0) led 41-0 at halftime.

Connor Bates had 72 yards and a pair of touchdowns on just two carries. He also caught a pair of passes for 81 yards, including a 68-yard touchdown from Barber. Barber connected on 4 of 5 pass attempts for 150 yards and two scores.

Clayton Sadler ran for 114 yards on five carries, including a 60-yard touchdown to open the third quarter. He also posted eight tackles on defense.

Grey Simpson made seven stops on defense. Jacob Welsh, Tanner Ruark, Zane Edwards, Bryant Williams and Caden Brown made six tackles each. Nicolas Deaton had a fumble recovery.

Spring Garden travels to Valley Head in a battle of unbeaten teams on Friday.
