Gaylesville falls to Appalachian 33-14

GAYLESVILLE – Appalachian jumped out to a 20-point halftime advantage and defeated Gaylesville 33-14 in Class 1A Region 8 football action on Friday night.

Hunter Allmond led the Trojans (2-2, 0-2) by completing 4 of 8 pass attempts for 96 yards and a 32-yard touchdown to Collin Hendon. Hendon caught a pair of passes for 71 yards and a score.

Alex Baty added 62 yards on 19 carries with a touchdown for Gaylesville. Baty’s touchdown, a 1-yard run, made it a 20-7 score early in the third quarter, but the Eagles (3-1, 1-0) countered with another touchdown. After Hendon’s 32-yard touchdown catch, Appalachian scored with 1:20 remaining for the final.

Allmond also led the Trojan defense with 10 tackles. Jack Sentell made eight stops. Hendon had seven tackles. Baty made five stops. Ben Henderson delivered a sack.

Gaylesville has an open week this Friday but then travels to Verbena on Sept. 27.
