Enrollment is Now Open for Extended Family Programs

Press Release – Enrollment is Now Open for Extended Family Programs

The 2024-25 school year has begun and Extended Family for Kids (EFK) and Extended Family Leadership Academy (ELA) fall sessions will begin soon.

Parents may go online to our website at EFK-ELA Online Enrollment Form-Extended Family (extendedfamilyhelp.org) to register children in  grades kindergarten through 12th for EFK and children in grades 7-12 for ELA.

EFK is for children who have any loved one who is or ever has been incarcerated.  In EFK, students learn how to be successful at home and in school with skills like how to manage anger and stress in ways that won’t get them into trouble.  They learn important lessons like, “It’s Not Your Fault,” “You Don’t Have to Do Their Time,” and, perhaps most importantly, “You Are Not Alone.”

ELA is designed for older students who need support managing the demands of high school while trying to make choices about their future.

This series of eighteen lessons begins in the fall and continues into the spring semester.  Students explore different options including careers, military, college, and other choices by hearing from speakers from the community who have chosen those paths.

Both EFK and ELA help children create greater success in their lives, both during school and into adulthood.  To enroll your child, either use the link provided or talk to your child’s school counselor.

Extended Family staff members lead EFK and ELA groups in Cherokee, Etowah, Calhoun, and DeKalb counties in Alabama.

If your child’s school does not offer Extended Family for Kids, let us know!  We offer EFK Leader Training in communities for caring adults in schools and community organizations who maintain good child practices

Our goal is to offer EFK to every child who needs it.
