Social Media Comments Cause for Concern at Spring Garden School

On Tuesday evening, another round of social media comments were cause for concern about school safety across the county, specifically at Spring Garden School.

School officials stated that following a full investigation, “no credible threat to school safety” was found, adding that “the safety of our students is our top priority and always will be.”

We want you all to know that we are aware of some comments circulating on social media that are causing concern. School administrators, SROs, and local law enforcement have investigated and find no credible threat to school safety. Please know that the safety of our students is our top priority and always will be. While we do understand the concern, we do encourage you to look for official information from the school or contact the principal directly for information.

We also ask that you talk to your children about school safety and the importance of speaking to a school administrator or teacher if they have cause for concern and NOT relying on social media as the source of reaching out.

We are so thankful for the community support we have in Spring Garden and very much appreciate the concern for the safety of all our students and staff members. While we find no credible threat in this instance, we will have extra law enforcement on campus tomorrow out of an abundance of caution.

Go Garden Go!

This comes after a SnapChat post made last week by a Cedar Bluff School student also raised concern and led to an investigation. On Monday, Superintendent of Cherokee County Schools Mike Welsh released the following statement:

“We are aware of inappropriate comments made last week by a student. The comments have been, and continue to be, investigated by school administration and law enforcement. There has been no threat to the safety of our schools. School safety is, and always will be, our top priority.

Social media chatter has contained some false statements that have caused alarm. While we understand being concerned in light of recent events in our neighboring state, we do encourage you to look for official information from our schools or contact our schools directly for information.

We are extremely thankful for the community concern for our students. The safety and well-being of all students will always be our top priority.”
