Cherokee County Commission Meeting

The Monday meeting of the Cherokee County Commission was somewhat brief, with only a few items on the agenda.

During the County Commission Planning Session, held prior to the actual meeting – members heard from the Extended Family Organization, Laure and Jerry Clemmons and Daphne Rogers. 

They were in attendance to update everyone on their current project list and what they have in store for the future including the Extended Family Leadership Academy – which is available to all students in the Cherokee County High School system and also in select Etowah County Schools.

This is available to students in ALL Cherokee County High Schools, and in select Etowah County Schools.

During the regular meeting – the Cherokee County Highway Department, issued a number of accepted bids on a wide variety of projects; the list was presented by County Engineer Corey Chambers.

The County Commission also extended work agreements for a number of employees, through December 31st (2034); they approved an agreement with USA Environmental & Infrastructure Inc. for mandatory monitoring of the groundwater at the old Leesburg Landfill in the amount of $16,000 – and they also approved an agreement with the Alabama Department of Environmental Management for collection, management, and disposal of scrap tires.

The next meeting of the Cherokee County Commission will be on Monday – September 23rd at 5:00pm.
