ATTENDANCE QUICK FACTS
1. Absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the year.
2. We currently have over 500 students in Cherokee County who missed two or more days of the first month of school. Missing just two days per month is considered Chronic Absenteeism!
3. Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade.
4. By 6th grade chronic absence becomes a leading indicator if students will drop out of high school.
5. All day attendance is important, but Better Late Than Never! Even if you are late, please come to school.
6. Also, please come to school even if you have to check out later. partial day attendance is better than a full day absence.
7. The academic impact of missing school is the same whether the absences are excused or unexcused. Most of our students’ absences are excused, but they still count toward chronic absenteeism.
