Cedar Bluff holds on for 28-22 region football victory at Gaston

Staff Reports

GADSDEN – Cedar Bluff quarterback Bryson Teague accounted for two touchdown runs in the first half, but perhaps his biggest run was on a fourth-and-4 play for a first down to kill the clock as the Tigers escaped with a 28-22 Class 2A Region 7 football win at Gaston on Friday.

Teague got the Tigers (1-2, 1-0) on the scoreboard first quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run. Bryant Gravley’s extra point put Cedar Bluff in front 7-0.

Teague gave the Tigers a two-score advantage with a 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Gravley again connected on the point after to give Cedar Bluff a 14-0 lead.

Teague finished with 75 yards on 15 carries with the two scores. He also completed 8 of 11 pass attempts for 101 yards.

Kadien Tracy also accounted for two scores before halftime on touchdown runs of 55 yards and a yard. Those scores gave Cedar Bluff a seemingly comfortable 28-0 advantage at intermission.

Tracy led the Tiger ground game with 149 yards on 25 carries with the two scores. On defense, he had six tackles, including one for loss, with a sack, three quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles.

Gaston (1-1, 0-1) finally got on the scoreboard in the third quarter with a pair of Chapman Clay touchdown tosses. The first went to Anthony Oliver for 15 yards. The second was 23 yards to Adonis Jones, which trimmed Cedar Bluff’s lead in half at 28-14.

Keller Skaggs brought the Bulldogs closer with his 6-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. The 2-point try made it 28-22, but Teague’s clutch 4-yard run on fourth down in the closing seconds ended Gaston’s comeback hopes.

Jeremiah Miller came away with six tackles, including one for loss, and two pass breakups on defense for the Tigers. Dylan McDaniel also broke up a pair of passes and had an interception. Cayden Garrett recovered a fumble.

Cedar Bluff hosts North Sand Mountain on Friday, while Gaston entertains Woodland.
