Derrick Dearman, a convicted axe murderer – is set to be the fifth person Alabama puts to death this year.
On Monday Governor Kay Ivey announced Dearman’s execution is set for sometime between 12:00am, on October 17th – and 6:00sam, on October 18th.
He will be put to death using lethal injection – after he chose that method over nitrogen hypoxia. Dearman, age 35, earlier this year said he wished to stop all appeals of his conviction – and death sentence. Dearman was sent to death in Atmore, for brutally slaying family members, of his then-girlfriend in Citronelle back in 2016.
Dearman stated earlier in the year he wasn’t ready to die any time soon, BUT in August he wrote a letter to the Alabama Attorney General’s Office expressing frustration that other men were set for execution before he was.
He’s set to be the fifth person Alabama executes in 2024.
