Post Office Makes Major Announcement About Mail Delivery Change
Some U.S. postal service customers could see a slowdown in their service – which would according to the brand new plan by officials, save as much as $3 billion a year. The proposal would let some mail – and packages – destined for rural OR far-off locations sit in distribution hubs for an extra day so carriers could prioritize service to locations within 50 miles of a processing center; the areas close to hubs could see “speedier service” with mail, and packages, that used to take four days to deliver now arriving in three. Reportedly, most all mail would still arrive within a five-day window.
That plan will be presented to the Postal Regulatory Commission – for an “advisory opinion” then finalized based on any recommendations and no changes would be implemented until AFTER the November election AND the peak holiday mail season.
According to officials – the U.S. Postal Service is set to lose over $7 billion this year, up from a $6.5 billion deficit in 2023.
